The white sand, the magnificent light, and the wild sea can be enjoyed all year round. Water sports, hiking, and storm safaris provide great nature experiences in the dark season, and playing in the sand is excellent on beautiful summer days.

Sandvesanden

Among Karmøy’s finest beach gems with golden sand dunes, wave drama, and rocky shores. A coastal walk to Sandve port is recommended. If it's summer, the café is open at Raw Ocean Lodge.

Åkrasanden

Voted Norway's finest, with sandy beaches as far as the eye can see. Follow the coastal path along the shoreline Åkrehamn-Ferkingstad for exciting historical traces and cultural landscapes.

Did you know?

That both beaches are certified with the Blue Flag environmental status?

Blue Flag is an international certification, and the standards to be met are universal. Here, best practices in environmental protection, water quality, and accessibility are followed. The local community and beach management are engaged in preserving and protecting the environment for future generations.

Time for reflection

At Åkrasanden, Moritz Rabinowitz is honored for his awareness of public access rights and antinazism. In 1940, he was among the first deported Norwegian Jews. "Time" is created by glass artist Kirsten Vikingstad Hermansson.

Waves & Wind

No matter the season, Karmøy is a mecca for extreme sports junkies! Easy access and good parking facilities right by the beaches.

There are good conditions for surfing in summer and early autumn, especially for beginners with relatively small waves. Strong wind and open sea make winter the high season for the more experienced.

At Sandve, the seabed topography provides a good surf break, and surfers flock to ride the perfect wave. Sandvesanden is recommended for more experienced surfers. For beginners in wave surfing, Stavasanden is a good alternative.

Åkrasanden is well suited for sail boarding and kiting. Strong wind and open sea make winter the high season for windsurfers here.

You can rent boards (surf and SUP) at Raw Ocean Lodge.
